Born into a wealthy Frankfurt family, he was educated at the Universities of Wiesbaden, Jena, and Bonn and earned a degree in philology in 1827. Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer was a German Texan botanist who spent his working life on the American frontier. Ferdinand was born in 1801. He was the son of Johann Hartmann Lindheimer and Jahnette Magdaline Reisser. Lindheimer and Flake clearly indicated both the opinion of many Ger-mans on secession and the reasons they came to hold this opinion.7 Ferdinand Jacob Lindheimer was born in Frankfurt on May 21, 1 8o, and was reputedly a relative of the poet Goethe.
